Cortado’s mobile interface uses AI to streamline every facet of property rental.
The goal
Cortado is a mobile-based property-rental platform that allows property managers---from Airbnb hosts to long-term landlords---to consolidate operations and scale their businesses.
By harnessing the power of GenAI, Cortado automates easy interactions such as password requests and maintenance needs while soliciting human attention for more nuanced situations. By allowing property managers to delegate automation or respond personally, the platform centers trust and transparency for guests while giving managers ultimate control of their properties.
The challenge
Cortado came to Loka for a GenAI-powered prototype that would capture investor attention and secure additional funding for its property-rental platform.
Right away Loka saw that communications functions such as email and text messaging could be elevated and optimized. We believed we could make maximum impact by integrating divergent channels into a single inbox and automating most types of messaging.
From there Loka and Cortado developed an AI Copilot that automated 90% of in-app messaging and designed an interface to visually represent it. Imbuing a human touch and maintaining user trust in these automated systems was essential---this is the hospitality industry, after all---and would benefit from the nuanced responsiveness of GenAI.
It All Began With a Design Sprint
Loka invited Cortado to join a collaborative design sprint, and together we arrived at early iterations of the AI Copilot and consolidated inbox.
We organized the sprint into three intensive workshops that brought together designers and stakeholders.
How it Unfolded
The first goal of the design sprint was to gain a clear understanding of user objectives and needs.
Throughout the sprint Loka and Cortado engaged in brainstorming sessions, sketching exercises and lightning demos.
Outcomes and Learnings
By the end of the sprint, we’d designed different options and arrived at one final prototype that met all client requirements. The design sprint led to wildly creative ideas while fostering a culture of collaboration and creativity between teams.

Journey Through AI-Enhanced Property Management
What we delivered
Loka worked with Cortado to devise a fully functioning MVP that seamlessly incorporates GenAI functionality in the AI Copilot. Additionally, Loka created a demo video showcasing the platform's capabilities, with the goal of generating excitement at conferences, events and investor meetings. From what Cortado has shared with us, it’s working.
As Cortado gears up for the development phase, they’ll continue collaborating with Loka, leveraging our design expertise to enhance the platform's functionality and user experience.
By empowering property managers like never before, Loka and Cortado are setting a new standard for intelligent rental management and revolutionizing the entire industry worldwide.
