The goal
eVisit is a telehealth company that’s simplifying virtual and hybrid care for health systems and hospitals. The company partnered with Loka to improve data efficiencies by creating an enterprise business intelligence and data analytics warehouse.
The challenge
As a telemedicine platform housing Protected Health Information (PHI), eVisit is required to follow federal data governance and compliance best practices around its secure storage and use. The company's data warehouse stores healthcare data schemas linked to PHI. eVisit's clinical teams have daily workflows requiring internal and external clinical reporting processes that leverage such healthcare data. To meet federal healthcare data governance and compliance requirements, eVisit needed Loka's DevOps expertise to consolidate disparate business intelligence (BI) and analytics data sources into a single data warehouse, ensuring unified visibility, as well as secure storage and retrieval of data.
The solution
Loka proposed several solutions to help eVisit improve their data management, BI and analytics capabilities. First, Loka suggested consolidating multiple data sources into a centralized data warehouse that would offer a consolidated view of data analytics for eVisit’s workflows. Second, Loka's DevOps team would manage the data flow, initially storing it in a central data lake before processing and making it readily accessible for future analytics use. Finally, the team would optimize the release process using AWS CodePipeline and GitHub Actions to ensure error-checking and facilitate deployment. Overall, this collaboration would serve to streamline eVisit's data management, enhance their BI and analytics capabilities and bolster their operational efficiency.
What we delivered
Loka integrated seven distinct data sources into a centralized AWS Redshift data warehouse, establishing a cohesive data repository that offers a consolidated view of data analytics for eVisit’s workflows related to clinical data operations. Loka also configured separate landing tables for raw data, central reporting tables for data transformation workflows and analysis tables for anonymized data. The Loka DevOps team built an automated end-to-end workflow for deployment of infrastructure as code (IaC) and data code. eVisit now benefits from automated infrastructure as code IaC deployments and increased developer velocity to push code updates, new code and patches that further the company's agile DevOps practices, moving the company's digital transformation forward.
The results
With Loka's developed data warehouse, eVisit can now synthesize insights from formerly disconnected data sources, streamline clinical reporting with readily accessible data and ensure regulatory compliance via robust data governance practices, all of which amplifies their ability to make data-driven decisions and preserve the confidentiality of protected health information.
